LAN Parties? Your experience?

I was just curious about other's response... But what originally drew you to attending LAN parties? Was it the people? The games? The atmosphere? We all have our own reasons, but I would like to gauge the reasons. When we planned CAGE and other LANs, I think our focus might have been around the wrong areas. I'd like to brainstorm to see exactly what can be catered as far as the overall LAN experience.

The first time i went it was becuase i wanted to play games with other people in a almost pingless environment. Then it became a competitive sport almost to win tournaments. And i guess at the end of it all it was the hangout with friends and play games together.
